Welcome to the Korean Legal History Research Center!
The Korean Legal History Research Center was established on March 1, 2022, as part of the Hanyang Humanities Enhancement Center(HEC). Our Center’s primary objective is to promote research in Korean legal history in comparative perspective. We explore subjects broadly related to the theme of the pursuit of JUSTICE in Korea’s legal past, researching legal norms, procedures, dispute resolutions, trials, and legal thoughts, to name only a few. To accomplish this, the Center organizes academic conferences, arranges special lectures by distinguished scholars, and hosts colloquiums. Furthermore, we actively promote and support the publication of original research outcomes in Korean legal history and the translation into Korean of seminal works published in foreign languages.
Our Center places emphasis on interdisciplinary research among scholars from various fields, such as history, law, and philosophy. We strive to establish connections with academic institutions and scholars in Korea and other countries in Asia, America, and Europe. Through these collaborations, we aim to broaden and deepen our understanding of Korea and other countries and societies from a legal perspective.
With our missions to promote “the globalization of Korean legal history scholarship” and “engagement of the legal history community at the international level,” the Center supports and offers various domestic and international research opportunities for individual as well as collaborative projects. We anticipate active participation of Korean and international scholars in our programs.
