Welcome to the Korean Legal History Research Center!

The Korean Legal History Research Center was established on March 1, 2022, as part of the Hanyang Humanities Enhancement Center (HEC). Our Center’s primary objective is to promote comparative research in Korean legal history. Our research examines Korea’s legal past through the lens of justice, researching legal norms, institutional procedures, mechanisms of dispute resolution, trial practices, and evolving legal philosophies, to list a few. To accomplish this, the Center organizes academic conferences, arranges special lectures by distinguished scholars, and hosts colloquiums. Furthermore, we actively promote and support the publication of original legal history work and the ranslation of seminal legal history scholarship into Korean .

Our Center emphasizes interdisciplinary research that brings together perspectives from history, law, philosophy, and other related fields. We strive to establish connections with academic institutions and scholars in Korea and around the world to foster collaborative nquiry and partnership. Through these collaborations, we aim to broaden and deepen our understanding of Korea and other societies throughthe lens of legal history.

Driven by our mission to promote the globalization of Korean legal history and the engagement of the legal history community at the international level, the Center offers various research opportunities—both domestic and international—for individual and collaborative projects. We encourage active rticipation from scholars in Korea and around the world in our opportunities and programs.
